‘If you can dream it, you can do it’ – Walt Disney
Dreams, a delusional parallel universe created where the stepping stones to success seem achievable. It’s a world full of promises and guaranteed fame and name. But, don’t we just admire those selected few people who actually have the ability to turn their dreams into a realistic world filled with a wonderful ornate of creativity? ‘‘The desire to create is one of the deepest yearnings of the human soul.’’
The quote above tells us about the kind of dedication and commitment that goes into creating something beautiful and that’s what the Interior students of the Lavelle Road campus of JD Institute of Fashion Technology did on 31st of March, 2015. They put up an artistically creative art exhibit where the theme was ‘Abstractism’. People from small villages and towns dream big because dreaming big doesn’t cost them a fortune. They find passion and determination to strive for what they dream about. Such is the story of this Indian fashion designer : Rahul Mishra. From a small village in Kanpur untouched by fashion, Rahul is the first Non-European to make it to Istituto Marangoni, a renowned fashion school in Milan, with a full scholarship. Enrolling for a fashion course in National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad was a case of luck by chance for him. NID was also the launch pad for his debut at the “GenNext” show at the Mumbai Fashion Week in 2006. The dresses and trousers were made from Kerala handloom fabric and off-white marked the trademark signature colour for him. Continue reading

‘J’Dian Express’ : Inspired by the Expressionist art movement of the 20th Century, the idea to find a connection and relevance between artworks of renowned artists and human facial expressions led to these innovative renditions of “expressionism” by the students. The purpose was to replicate and capture the mood of the paintings through our emotions. Every painting has an interpretation of its own, which has been the inspiration behind our own version of depiction.
